Local authorities propose new S12 expressway section to relieve A2 congestion
Local government representatives from the Wielkopolska and Łódź provinces are advocating for the construction of a new section of the S12 expressway. The proposed route would run from Sieradz through Kalisz to Pleszew, potentially serving as an alternative to the heavily congested A2 motorway.
Kalisz President Krystian Kinastowski suggests the new route could connect the S11 and S8 expressways while diverting transit traffic away from town centers. However, the Sieradz-Kalisz-Pleszew section is not currently included in the government's approved investment program. Local authorities plan to prepare a joint position to persuade central authorities to include the project in future road construction plans.
Currently, the S12 project is planned to connect the A1 motorway in the Łódź province to the border crossing in Dorohusk. While nearly 100 km of the road is under construction or completed, significant portions of the approximately 400 km route are still in the documentation or tender stages.
