Local candidates announce runs for municipal and school board positions

Several candidates have announced their intentions for upcoming municipal and school board elections in British Columbia.

In Comox, Jessica Wegg is running for Town Council. Her platform focuses on climate resiliency, environmental stewardship, and creating more recreational infrastructure and social spaces for local youth. She also emphasizes transparent municipal spending.

In Mission, Martin Marinutti has entered the council race. A former chair of the Steelhead Community Association, Marinutti is advocating for fiscal responsibility and responsible land-use planning. He highlighted the need to expand the commercial and industrial tax base to address significant property tax increases facing residents.

In Courtenay, Janice Caton initially announced a bid for re-election as a School Trustee, focusing on literacy, numeracy, and sustainable public education funding. However, it has been reported that Caton has since withdrawn her candidacy.
