Furusato Choice platform suffers data breach affecting 4.45 million users

The Furusato Choice tax donation portal has experienced a security breach involving unauthorized access. The platform's operator, Trust Bank Co., Ltd., reported that the incident occurred on October 17, leading to the potential leakage of personal information for approximately 4,454,097 members.

The compromised data includes names, email addresses, physical addresses, phone numbers, hashed passwords, and estimated donation tax deduction amounts. In response, Trust Bank has suspended related services, including the main website, app, and various crowdfunding and disaster support platforms, while an investigation is underway.

Authorities and the operator have advised users to change passwords if they use the same credentials on other services and to remain vigilant against suspicious emails, SMS, or phone calls claiming to be from Trust Bank or related entities.
