Furusato Choice data breach
Overview
The Furusato Choice tax donation portal, operated by Trust Bank Co., Ltd., experienced unauthorized access that led to a significant data breach. The service interruption began on October 19, 2025, as a measure to prevent further damage.
Subsequent reports confirmed that the incident occurred on October 17 and potentially compromised the personal information of approximately 4,454,097 members. The leaked data includes names, email addresses, physical addresses, phone numbers, hashed passwords, and estimated donation tax deduction amounts.
In response, Trust Bank suspended the main website, mobile application, and various crowdfunding and disaster support platforms. Local governments and the operator have advised users to change passwords on other services if they use identical credentials and to remain vigilant against suspicious communications such as emails, SMS, or phone calls.
