Local governments develop policies for artificial intelligence use
Local governments in North America are increasingly developing policies to regulate the use of artificial intelligence in public operations.
In Dunwoody, the City Council discussed establishing ethical guidelines for AI use, focusing on areas such as public trust, accountability, human oversight, transparency, fairness, and data security. The city’s technology director noted that a failed state Senate bill regarding responsible AI use served as a guideline for drafting these policies.
In the Comox Valley, various organizations are addressing AI integration. The Comox Valley Regional District has already adopted an Artificial Intelligence Governance Policy, which staff use for daily tasks. Additionally, Comox Valley Schools is investigating potential future implementations of AI within the educational system.
