Local South Korean councils review supplementary budgets

Local governments in South Korea are undergoing budget reviews for their supplementary expenditure plans.

Haenam County has submitted a second supplementary budget proposal totaling approximately 78.9 billion won to the Haenam County Council. If passed, the county's total annual budget will increase by 7.57% to over 1.01 trillion won. The funds are earmarked for various sectors, including agriculture, tourism, social welfare, and industry. During the review process, council members raised the necessity of providing livelihood support funds to residents, noting that several neighboring municipalities have already implemented such measures.

In Imsil County, the Imsil County Council reviewed a first supplementary budget of approximately 599.9 billion won. The council decided to cut 498 million won from six general account items, citing insufficient data and inadequate explanations from the executive branch regarding certain projects. The council emphasized the importance of responsible budget auditing to ensure limited resources are used effectively for the residents.
