Lockerbie bombing trial rescheduled for January 2027
A federal trial for Abu Agila Mohammad Mas’ud Kheir Al-Marimi, a former Libyan intelligence official accused of involvement in the 1988 bombing of Pan Am Flight 103, has been rescheduled for January 19, 2027.
U.S. District Judge Dabney Friedrich postponed the proceedings, which were originally set to begin on August 26, following the discovery of new evidence. While the specific nature of this evidence remains undisclosed in court filings, the defense has indicated it intends to call new witnesses and present additional expert testimony.
The 1988 bombing of the New York-bound aircraft over Lockerbie, Scotland, resulted in the deaths of 259 passengers and crew, as well as 11 people on the ground. Prosecutors allege the attack was carried out under the direction of former Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi.
