Logistics automation expands as Amazon hits hiring milestone and Sereact deploys sorting robots

Amazon has reached a staffing milestone at its new logistics center in Zweibrücken, Germany, having filled 1,000 positions. This includes over 200 specialist and management roles. The facility is currently testing technology, including 2,500 transport robots, in preparation for the upcoming Christmas shopping season. While the site aims for a total of 1,500 jobs, recruitment for shipping personnel continues at an hourly wage of 16.69 euros.

In a separate development in European logistics, Stuttgart-based startup Sereact has deployed two-armed robots to sort fashion returns for Zalando. Operating at CEVA Logistics sites in Greven, Germany, and Świebodzin, Poland, these robots utilize Cortex software to identify and sort unidentifiable, crumpled, or poorly packed items. The companies stated that the automation is intended to reduce physical strain on workers by shifting staff toward supervision and quality control roles.
