Paris trial examines evidence in Federico Martin Aramburu murder
The trial of Loïk Le Priol and Romain Bouvier continues in Paris regarding the 2022 murder of former Argentine rugby player Federico Martín Aramburú. The proceedings have focused on reconstructing the events of March 19, 2022, which began with a verbal altercation at the Le Mabillon café and ended with Aramburú being shot on a boulevard in Saint-Germain.
Key evidence presented includes surveillance footage showing Le Priol handling a knife and loading a weapon prior to the fight. Investigators and ballistic experts have challenged the defendants' claims of self-defense, noting that the rapid succession of shots—including ten shots in total within a very short timeframe—suggests an intent to kill rather than a warning or defensive action. One investigator testified that “when you empty your magazine against an unarmed person, it is an intention to kill.”
Le Priol, a former special forces member, faces charges of murder, while Bouvier faces attempted murder. The court is examining the defendants' behavior before and after the shooting, as well as their history with extremist groups, to determine the nature of the attack.
