Lombardy adopts data‑center law and earmarks €96 million for social housing

The Lombardy region in northern Italy approved a new regional law governing data‑centre construction, introducing a single‑window approval process, prioritising redevelopment of brownfield sites and imposing higher fees for projects on green land. The legislation, published on 5 June 2026, aims to standardise permits and manage the sector’s energy and urban impact.

In a separate initiative, Lombardy announced a €96 million housing‑social programme to refurbish 2,500 apartments for low‑ and middle‑income families, students and vulnerable groups. Funded by European development funds, the plan allocates €48 million to enterprises and municipalities, €35 million to local housing agencies and €13 million to social‑service organisations, with grants of up to €2 million per project.
