Lombardy adopts pioneering data‑center law and calls for action on elderly heat‑wave isolation

The Lombardy regional council approved Italy’s first law governing data centres. The legislation aims to attract investment and innovation while protecting agricultural land and protected areas. It also supports the “Safe Stations” proposal to boost police presence in public transport hubs and allocates resources for families, schools, civil protection, disability services and women victims of violence. The regional government highlighted a €576 million national contribution to complete the M5 railway line to Monza, improving mobility for thousands of commuters.

Separately, Lombardy’s health and social services authorities warned that extreme heat spells are endangering elderly residents, especially those experiencing social isolation. The region urged a coordinated response among local health agencies, municipalities and social services to create dedicated community centres and activities that keep seniors socially engaged and safe during heat waves, emphasizing psychological well‑being alongside physical health protections.
