Lombardy ATM explosions: coordinated raids hit Paderno Dugnano and Melegnano
A series of coordinated explosive attacks targeted ATMs across the Lombardy region during the early hours of the weekend. In Paderno Dugnano, two separate ATMs in the Calderara district—one at a Poste Italiane office and another at a Bcc di Carate Brianza branch—were detonated simultaneously using gas saturation techniques. The explosions caused significant structural damage, shattering windows and fixtures, before the perpetrators fled with an undisclosed amount of cash.
Simultaneously, criminal activity was reported in the Milan hinterland. In Melegnano, a Banca Popolare di Sondrio ATM in Piazza Garibaldi was targeted by a group of three or four hooded individuals who successfully stole cash following an explosion. In Zibido San Giacomo, an attempt to blow up a Banca Agricola Mantovana ATM in Piazza Roma resulted in heavy damage, but the thieves were unable to secure any cash and fled empty-handed.
Law enforcement agencies have launched investigations, utilizing surveillance footage and forensic analysis to identify the specialized criminal group responsible for these raids. These incidents follow a recent pattern of similar explosive thefts in the area, including a double attack in Sesto Ulteriano earlier in September.
