Lombardy completes Iseo and Edolo hydrogen plants under PNRR deadline
Ferrovienord has finished construction of the hydrogen production and refuelling facilities at Iseo and Edolo in Lombardy, meeting the final milestone of the PNRR programme. The projects, part of the H2iseO initiative, were funded with €97.2 million of the €362.4 million allocated by the region, and will support the upcoming hydrogen‑powered trains on the Brescia‑Iseo‑Edolo line.
The Iseo plant will produce up to 1,150 kg of hydrogen per day from biomethane, store 1,450 kg and supply two train bays at 350 bar. Commissioning and dynamic testing are scheduled for the next weeks, with commercial service expected from early 2027. “Il completamento degli impianti di Iseo e Edolo … rappresenta un’ulteriore tappa decisiva,” said FNM president Andrea Gibelli, while delegate Fulvio Caradonna called the works a “passaggio decisivo” for the region’s decarbonisation effort.
