Lombardy hailstorm disrupts roads and sparks emergencies

A severe thunderstorm swept Lombardy on Saturday, bringing heavy rain, strong wind gusts and large hail. In the province of Pavia, trees were uprooted and branches fell on streets, causing a vehicle collision and prompting medical and fire‑fighter assistance. An additional tree collapsed onto the A7 Milan‑Genoa motorway near the Gropello Cairoli interchange, slowing traffic and requiring removal crews.

The hail also hit the Oltrepò Pavese area, covering roads and fields in the town of Sant’Albano. Emergency services responded to numerous incidents in both Pavia and Milan, clearing debris and restoring safe circulation.
