Lombardy nursing homes risk collapse, Dem councillor Astuti calls for regional reform

Representatives of the main Lombardy nursing‑home associations (UNEBA, ARIS and ANASTE) told a regional Social Sustainability commission that many RSA facilities lack contracted beds, face staff shortages and rising operating costs, and struggle to reimburse care for Alzheimer’s and other neuro‑degenerative patients. They warned that the sector is under a serious risk of collapse.

Democratic Party regional councillor Samuele Astuti condemned the centre‑right regional government for not acting on the repeatedly raised problems. He urged immediate reforms, including a clear distinction between profit and non‑profit operators, restoration of the FRISL health‑investment fund, and a three‑year plan to allocate resources for new contracts, contain resident fees and boost staff incentives.
