Lombardy official condemns tourist vandalism at Lake Como mountain huts

Giacomo Zamperini, president of the Mountain Commission of Lombardy and regional councilor for Fratelli d'Italia, expressed outrage over recent vandalism at mountain huts near Lake Como. He described incidents where groups of young tourists in flip‑flops climbed onto the roof of the Magnodeno bivouac on Monte Magnodeno and urinated on its solar panels, and another group sprayed graffiti and pro‑Palestinian slogans on a hut on Grignetta mountain.

Zamperini called the acts “an attack on a safety installation and a symbol of mountain culture,” thanked volunteers who cleaned the sites, and urged visitors to respect the environment, avoid reckless behaviour, and wear appropriate gear. He noted similar repeated vandalism in the German Alps, highlighting a broader problem of irresponsible tourist conduct in Alpine regions.
