Lombardy presents sustainable development legislation at UN forum in New York

The Lombardy regional government showcased its sustainable‑development agenda at the United Nations High‑Level Political Forum in New York. Deputy Minister for Environment and Climate Giorgio Maione presented the new "Legge Clima", which establishes a comprehensive set of objectives, monitoring tools and a green‑budgeting framework.

The presentation also covered recent regional laws on data‑center regulation, criteria for sites suitable for renewable‑energy projects, and a reform of the environmental‑impact‑assessment system intended to streamline procedures while safeguarding public health. Lombardy aims to become Europe’s leading digital‑sustainability hub, projecting about €22 billion of private investment over the next five years, while protecting agricultural soil and landscape.

International delegates at the forum expressed interest in the Lombardy model, which the region describes as a governed transition that links digital and energy shifts under a single development strategy.
