Lombardy Region seeks national aid for agricultural weather damage

The Lombardy Region has officially recognized the exceptional nature of severe weather events that struck parts of the province in July 2026. Following a resolution approved by the regional government, the administration has requested the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forests (Masaf) to issue a formal declaration to enable compensation for agricultural damages.

In the Lodi area, extreme weather on July 17 involving tornadoes, heavy rain, and strong winds affected 12 municipalities, causing damage to infrastructure and hundreds of fallen trees.

In the Mantua area, violent winds and hail on July 15 and 20 impacted approximately 13,000 hectares of agricultural land across 23 municipalities. Regional assessments estimate the damage to structures, equipment, and stocks at between 12.2 million and 18.2 million euros. Affected sectors include corn, orchards, vineyards, and greenhouse productions. The regional government is seeking access to the National Solidarity Fund to support affected businesses.
