Lombardy towns suspend services and restore routes after severe June storms

Violent thunderstorms swept the Varese area and broader Lombardy on the night of 9 June and continued through 11 June, bringing intense rain, strong gusts and hail. Municipal authorities reported that in just over ten minutes the rainfall equalled roughly half of the typical June total for the Alto Milanese, underscoring the extreme intensity of the event.

In Cocquio Trevisago the municipal library was closed on 10–11 June for emergency repairs and reopened on 12 June after damage assessment and cleanup. In Legnano, all city streets have been cleared and reopened, cemeteries were scheduled to reopen to the public on 13 June, and the Augusto Marinoni civic library was set to reopen on the following Monday. The Parco Castello remains closed while safety inspections on trees are completed, and the nearby Parco Bosco Ronchie is also advised to be avoided until further notice. Local crews continued debris removal, tree pruning and infrastructure repairs, with the municipality allocating €350 000 this year for additional pruning and maintenance to mitigate future extreme weather impacts.
