London protest urges UK to halt arms sales to Israel

On 19 July 2024, thousands gathered in London to demand that the incoming Labour government, led by Andy Burnham, impose an embargo on arms sales to Israel. The march, organised by pro‑Palestinian groups, was led by Husam Zomlot, the Palestinian ambassador to the United Kingdom, who carried signs denouncing colonialism and Israeli impunity.

Speakers including MP Jeremy Corbyn condemned the UK’s role in supplying weapons used in the Gaza conflict, which has killed more than 73,000 Palestinians since October 2023. Protesters called for the implementation of International Court of Justice rulings, the suspension of all arms transfers to Israel, and the sanctioning of settlement products. The demonstration also criticised the outgoing Labour administration for its perceived inaction on the humanitarian crisis.

The rally reflects growing pressure on British officials to reevaluate military support for Israel amid accusations of war crimes and calls for accountability.
