London ShattaFest UK Crowd Crush Leaves 23 Injured After Fire Sparks Surge
The Ghanaian cultural festival ShattaFest UK, also promoted as Ghana Party in the Park, was held at Copthall Playing Fields in North London on 1 August 2026. A small fire near the entrance forced the gates to close temporarily; when they were reopened, a crowd surge occurred, resulting in a crush.
Twenty‑three attendees required medical assistance, nine were assessed by the London Ambulance Service and three were taken to hospital with non‑life‑threatening injuries. No deaths or serious injuries were reported. The Metropolitan Police and emergency services confirmed the sequence of events and denied rumours of fatalities or stabbings.
Organisers cancelled the festival on health‑and‑safety grounds after consulting with emergency responders. Event promoter Alordia, a UK‑based Ghanaian promoter, denied claims that tickets had been oversold, stating the event never exceeded the legally approved capacity of 10,000 attendees and that no "sold out" announcement had been made by the official organisers.
