Long Beach hit-and-run crash leaves one dead and one injured

A multi-vehicle crash in North Long Beach resulted in one fatality and one injury on Saturday afternoon. The collision occurred around 2:40 p.m. in the 6900 block of Atlantic Avenue.

According to the Long Beach Police Department, a speeding northbound 2019 Volvo struck a Chevrolet as it was turning, subsequently hitting two other stationary vehicles. The impact caused the Chevrolet to overturn, killing a woman at the scene. A male driver from the Chevrolet was transported to a hospital with injuries that were not immediately clarified.

The driver of the Volvo, 38-year-old Compton resident Adalberto Delgado-Perez, initially fled the scene before returning and being taken into custody. He has been booked into the Long Beach City Jail on suspicion of hit and run resulting in death or injury, gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, and driving under the influence of alcohol causing bodily injury. Authorities noted that speed and impaired driving appeared to be contributing factors.
