Laguna Beach fatal hit-and-run conviction

In September 2026, Sysillia Kianna Morrison Montes De Oca, 22, was convicted of multiple felonies related to a fatal hit-and-run that occurred in Laguna Beach on August 11, 2022. The charges included gross vehicular manslaughter and hit-and-run involving injury or death.

The incident involved Montes De Oca striking Stanley Isaacs, 60, and his wife, Catherina, as they crossed South Coast Highway and Peal Street. The collision killed Isaacs and injured his wife. Prosecutors alleged that Montes De Oca intended to speed before the crash and had consumed marijuana. Following the collision, she fled the scene.

A co-defendant, Jack Francis Bannigan, previously pleaded guilty to being an accessory after the fact for concealing the damaged vehicle. Montes De Oca is scheduled for sentencing on November 13.
