Long Beach jet skier found alive after overnight ocean search

A 53-year-old man, identified as Paul Anthony Carbullido Jr., was found alive on Monday morning after spending much of the night missing in the ocean off Long Beach, California.

The incident began Sunday evening when Carbullido and a woman separated from their personal watercraft. A woman in her 40s managed to swim to the breakwater, where she was rescued by lifeguards after a boat operator heard her screams. While two jet skis were recovered early Monday morning, Carbullido remained missing until approximately 10:48 a.m., when a U.S. Coast Guard helicopter spotted him floating in a green life jacket about three miles offshore from the Seal Beach Pier.

A Coast Guard rescue swimmer was lowered to Carbullido, who was then airlifted to shore. He was reported to be in stable condition, though he showed signs of hypothermia. The search involved multiple agencies, including the Long Beach Fire Department, the Long Beach Police Department, and the U.S. Coast Guard.
