Long Island woman rescued from eight-foot hole in backyard

Danielle Tammone, a resident of Bohemia on Long Island, New York, fell into an eight-foot-deep hidden hole in her backyard during her 47th birthday celebration.

The opening, which was approximately one foot wide, appeared to be a concealed underground structure such as an old well or cesspool. Tammone reported feeling the ground shift before sinking into the muddy, waterlogged cavity.

After being trapped for approximately half an hour, her cries for help were heard by neighbors. Emergency responders used a ladder borrowed from a neighbor to rescue her from the hole. Tammone escaped the ordeal with only minor scrapes, attributing her lack of serious injury to the soft, muddy conditions at the bottom of the pit.
