Long Island backyard rescue incident
Overview
Danielle Tammone, a 47-year-old resident of Bohemia on Long Island, fell into an eight-foot-deep hole in her backyard during her birthday celebration. The incident occurred when the ground gave way, dropping her into what appeared to be an overflowing stone cesspool or a concealed underground structure.
Tammone reported feeling a sense of panic and a fear of being “buried alive” as the structure partially crumbled. Neighbors heard her screams and contacted emergency services. Responders, including police, firefighters, and EMTs, arrived at the scene to complete the rescue, with some reports noting the use of a ladder borrowed from a neighbor. Tammone escaped the ordeal with only minor scrapes, which she attributed to the “soft, muddy conditions” at the bottom of the pit.
