Longano and Castelpizzuto mayors demand road safety funding
The mayors of Longano and Castelpizzuto have issued a joint request to the Province of Isernia to allocate a portion of its recently announced administrative surplus toward the safety and redevelopment of the SP 21 highway.
The provincial road serves as the sole connection between Isernia and the two municipalities, handling daily traffic from residents, students, public transport, and heavy vehicles traveling to a bottling plant in Castelpizzuto. Local officials highlighted critical issues including deteriorating road surfaces, narrow sections, and the precarious condition of bridges and other structural works.
In addition to the funding request, the mayors have formally petitioned the Prefect of Isernia to convene an urgent technical meeting. They expressed frustration over the lack of updates regarding a previously promised technical survey and the delayed installation of traffic lights intended to regulate heavy vehicle movement at dangerous intersections. The local population has reportedly intensified protests due to the ongoing safety risks and administrative delays.
