Look Back live-action film premieres in Japan

The live-action filmLook Back’, directed by Hirokazu Kore-eda and based on the manga by Tatsuki Fujimoto, has officially premiered in Japan. The film, which follows the lives of two young girls connected through their passion for manga, was recently selected for the competition category at the 83rd Venice International Film Festival.

During a stage greeting in Tokyo, lead actresses Natsuki Deguchi and Ayaju Makita reflected on the film’s international reception. Deguchi recalled being moved to tears following a 12-minute standing ovation at the Venice Film Festival. Makita noted the high level of anticipation from both domestic and international audiences.

Director Kore-eda chose Nikaho City in Akita Prefecture as a primary filming location, conducting long-term shoots to capture the region's seasonal beauty. The decision was influenced by the connection between the characters' names, Fujino and Kyomoto, and the local setting.
