Loreto approves new measures to combat gender-based violence

The municipal council of Loreto has unanimously approved a new agenda to strengthen measures against gender-based violence. This decision follows the femicide of Luigia Fortunato on July 9, an event that deeply impacted the local community.

The approved plan includes several key initiatives: implementing educational programs in schools focused on respect and affection, enhancing services at the Family Center in collaboration with the Social Territory XIII, and launching awareness campaigns. Additionally, the municipality will join the national ‘Posto Occupato’ campaign, install a ‘red bench’ as a symbol, and establish an annual public event every July 9 to maintain ongoing awareness.

Mayor Moreno Pieroni stated that combating gender violence requires investment in culture, education, and prevention rather than relying solely on courtrooms. Daniela Romanini, the councilor for Equal Opportunities who promoted the document, emphasized that lasting change must stem from education and a stronger local support network.
