Loreto gender-based violence prevention initiatives

Overview

Following the killing of Luigia ‘Gina’ Fortunato on July 9, the municipal council of Loreto unanimously approved an action plan to combat gender-based violence.

Promoted by councilor Daniela Romanini, the agenda focuses on prevention and cultural change through several initiatives. These include school-based educational programs, public awareness campaigns, and the strengthening of the local Family Centre. The plan also involves participating in the national ‘Posto Occupato’ project and installing a ‘red bench’ as a symbol. Mayor Moreno Pieroni noted that addressing gender violence requires investment in education and prevention rather than relying solely on courtrooms.
