Los Angeles 2028 Paralympics expected to reach record performance levels
Leila Marques, Vice-President of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) and the Portuguese Paralympic Committee (CPP), predicts that the Los Angeles 2028 Paralympic Games will feature the highest level of athletic performance in history. Speaking at the European ASPC Forum in Rio Maior, Portugal, Marques noted that the upcoming games are expected to host 4,480 athletes from approximately 156 countries across 23 disciplines.
Marques attributed the rapid evolution of Paralympic sports to sustained investments in high-performance centers and specialized preparation programs. She cited the Paris 2024 Games as evidence of this growth, where 175 world records and 218 Paralympic records were broken. She also highlighted China and Brazil as examples of nations where significant investment has led to a notable increase in medal counts.
