Los Angeles AI Art Museum Dataland Opens as World's First

Dataland, billed as the world’s first museum dedicated entirely to AI‑generated art, opened on 20 June 2026 in downtown Los Angeles at The Grand, opposite the Walt Disney Concert Hall. The museum was founded by media artist Refik Anadol and partner Efsun Erkiliç, with technical support from Google Cloud. Its inaugural exhibition, Machine Dreams: Rainforest, displays AI‑created visuals, soundscapes, scents and interactive lighting that react to visitors through wearable sensors measuring motion, temperature and pulse.

The five‑gallery venue showcases AI models trained on more than a billion pieces of natural‑world data, emphasizing ethical data collection and artist‑led control of the technology. Anadol describes the project as a way to expand imagination rather than replace it, and notes that the museum will also serve research, education and preservation functions for this emerging art form. Admission is $59 per adult.
