Los Angeles International Airport to receive $290 million federal grant for access improvements

The U.S. Department of Transportation announced a $290 million federal grant for Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) under its Airport Infrastructure Grants program. The funding will support the Airfield and Terminal Modernization Program Roadway Improvements Project, adding new entrance roadways to separate airport traffic from local streets, easing congestion on Sepulveda Boulevard and improving terminal connectivity. Mayor Karen Bass said the project will “enhance accessibility and reduce traffic congestion while also supporting jobs, spurring economic growth, and advancing our long-term vision for LAX.”

The LAX award is part of a broader $870 million investment to modernize 339 airports across 44 states, including projects at Miami, Akron‑Canton, Juneau, Charleston and Sugar Land. DOT Secretary Sean Duffy noted the grants will make travel “more efficient” and strengthen the nation’s air‑transport infrastructure.
