U.S. federal airport infrastructure funding

The U.S. government has initiated significant federal funding for airport infrastructure improvements across the country.

In early August, the U.S. Department of Transportation announced a $290 million grant specifically for Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). This funding is designated for the Airfield and Terminal Modernization Program Roadway Improvements Project, aimed at adding new entrance roadways to separate airport traffic from local streets and reduce congestion on Sepulveda Boulevard. This award was part of a larger $870 million investment targeting 339 airports nationwide.

By late August, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) expanded these efforts by awarding nearly $615 million to fund 238 projects across 42 states and two territories. These grants, distributed through the Airport Improvement Program, focus on enhancing safety and efficiency through the rehabilitation of runways, taxiways, terminals, and towers at various municipal and regional airports.
