Los Angeles lawmakers seek $2 billion in transit funding for 2028 Olympics

Five members of Congress representing the Los Angeles area have called on the Trump administration to expedite $2 billion in transportation funding essential for the 2028 Summer Olympics. Local officials stated the funds are necessary to deploy 1,700 additional buses and establish high-speed lanes on freeways and streets to facilitate movement for athletes and spectators.

Simultaneously, Los Angeles City Controller Kenneth Mejia has demanded greater financial transparency from LA28, the nonprofit organizing the Games. Mejia reported that the organization has only fully complied with two of nine contractual requirements under the city’s Games Agreement. Requested documentation includes bank statements, venue budgets, contractor identities, and comparisons of actual revenue from ticket sales and sponsorships against financial projections. Mejia expressed concern regarding the city’s role as a financial backstop for potential losses.
