Los Angeles 2028 Olympics preparations

Preparations for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics have focused on infrastructure funding and public safety logistics. Initially, congressional representatives sought $2 billion in federal transportation funding to support transit needs, including additional buses and high-speed lanes. During this period, Los Angeles City Controller Kenneth Mejia also raised concerns regarding financial transparency from the organizing nonprofit, LA28, noting that the group had only fully complied with two of nine contractual requirements.

Subsequently, the Los Angeles City Council approved $13.04 million to procure a package of 107 non-patrol vehicles for the Los Angeles Police Department. These assets, which include command substations, logistics trucks, and hazardous materials response vehicles, are intended to support the Games, which are designated as a National Special Security Event. The council also requested a fiscal impact report concerning a separate $30 million request for 300 standard patrol vehicles to assist with the anticipated peak staffing requirements.
