Los Angeles Philharmonic performs at Edinburgh International Festival
The Los Angeles Philharmonic performed at Usher Hall as part of their residency at the Edinburgh International Festival. Conducted by Gustavo Dudamel, the program featured Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7 and the Scottish premiere of Gabriela Ortiz’s Revolución diamantina.
The performance held emotional weight as it marks one of the final appearances for Dudamel with the LA Phil before he transitions to his new role with the New York Philharmonic. Following the Beethoven symphony, the orchestra presented Ortiz’s ballet score, a work inspired by the 2019 Glitter Revolution in Mexico City and its protests against violence toward women. The piece utilized five percussion nests and eight amplified female singers from the Los Angeles Master Chorale to create an immersive sonic landscape.
