Los Angeles Rams release kicker Harrison Mevis
The Los Angeles Rams have released kicker Harrison Mevis following a series of critical errors during their 37-34 overtime loss to the Buffalo Bills. Mevis missed a 50-yard field goal attempt in the first quarter and had a potential game-winning 48-yard attempt blocked by Gregory Rousseau in overtime. This performance brought his season success rate to just 5-of-9 on field goals.
To replace Mevis, the Rams signed Blake Grupe from the New York Jets’ practice squad. Grupe, a former kicker for the New Orleans Saints and Indianapolis Colts, brings a career field goal success rate of 81.9%. He is expected to be available for the team’s upcoming game against the Arizona Cardinals.
Head coach Sean McVay expressed significant dissatisfaction with the special teams unit, stating that the kicking performance was ‘not even close to good enough’ and directly contributed to the loss. While the team is overhauling its kicking position, McVay indicated that special teams coach Bubba Ventrone will remain in his role.
