Los Angeles street takeovers lead to vehicle fire and looting

Two separate street takeover incidents in Los Angeles resulted in vehicle fires and looting during the early morning hours of Saturday, August 8, 2026.

In the Gramercy Park neighborhood, a massive vehicle fire occurred near the intersection of West Century Boulevard and South Western Avenue. Los Angeles Fire Department officials responded to the blaze around 4:52 a.m. Prior to the fire, the Los Angeles Police Department arrived to disperse a large crowd that was reportedly setting off fireworks. While skid marks were visible at the scene, it remains unclear how the car fire started, and no immediate information regarding arrests was provided.

In East Los Angeles, an AutoZone located at 1131 S. Atlantic Blvd was looted following a separate street takeover at approximately 2:20 a.m. The Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department responded to the break-in, where spectators are believed to have shattered glass doors and ransacked the premises. Looters stole three cash registers and more than $50,000 worth of merchandise, including car batteries, tools, and other auto accessories.
