Los Angeles street takeover and looting incidents

Overview

In early August 2026, street takeover incidents in Los Angeles led to property damage and looting. On August 8, a takeover in the Gramercy Park neighborhood resulted in a massive vehicle fire near West Century Boulevard and South Western Avenue. Simultaneously, in East Los Angeles, an AutoZone was looted following a takeover event.

Subsequent investigations revealed that the East Los Angeles AutoZone was targeted by “coordinated, mob-like” burglaries occurring within a 24-hour period. The first incident took place on August 8, when a group allegedly smashed glass doors, followed by a second raid on August 9 involving a crowd of more than 100 vehicles near Olympic and Atlantic boulevards. Total losses from these burglaries are estimated at over $50,000 in merchandise and three cash registers. Law enforcement has released images of 16 suspects, including 11 males and five females, to assist in identification.

On August 17, a new looting incident occurred at an AutoZone located at 10013 S. Central Ave. in South Los Angeles. The burglary took place around 5:30 a.m. following an alleged street takeover where vehicles blocked an intersection. The Los Angeles Police Department reported that two individuals were taken into custody, while the total number of suspects involved remains under investigation.

On August 24, two additional businesses in Southern California were looted during separate street takeover events. In Boyle Heights, suspects allegedly used a saw to enter Lorena Pharmacy, where approximately 10 individuals fled with merchandise. Shortly after, at a Jack in the Box in East Los Angeles, three suspects reportedly entered the restaurant, with two masked individuals allegedly stealing two cash registers. No arrests have been announced for these most recent incidents.
