Los Mirlos perform Peruvian Amazonian cumbia at NPR Tiny Desk

The Peruvian psychedelic cumbia group Los Mirlos has released their Tiny Desk Concert performance via NPR Music. The 18-minute session features five songs: ‘La Danza de Los Mirlos’, ‘La Fuga del Jaguar’, ‘Llanto en la Selva’, ‘Las Noches’, and ‘La Pandilla / Doña Guillermina’.

Recorded on July 28, the performance serves as a tribute to the Amazon rainforest and its diverse cultures. The band utilized the platform to highlight environmental and social issues, specifically dedicating ‘Llanto en la Selva’ to indigenous peoples defending the Amazon.

The group’s presentation included visual elements of cultural identity, such as hand-embroidered shirts featuring Shipibo-Konibo kené art. The international expansion of the group was managed by the New York-based agency Rockass Online Music.
