NPR El Tiny concert series

Overview

NPR announced the return of ‘El Tiny’, a special series of Tiny Desk Concerts celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month. The lineup includes a diverse range of Latin American artists such as Mon Laferte, Melissa Aldana, Gonzalo Rubalcaba, and Los Tigres del Norte. Chilean singer Mon Laferte served as the inaugural event for the 2026 edition. Performing with an ensemble of brass, piano, drums, and double bass, Laferte played tracks from her recent albums ‘Femme Fatale’ and ‘Femme Fatale Vol. 2’, including ‘For Your Consideration’ and ‘Vida Normal’. On September 17, the Peruvian psychedelic cumbia group Los Mirlos released their 18-minute session. Recorded on July 28, the performance featured five songs, including ‘La Danza de Los Mirlos’, ‘La Fuga del Jaguar’, and ‘Llanto en la Selva’. The group used the platform to highlight environmental and social issues, specifically dedicating ‘Llanto en la Selva’ to indigenous peoples defending the Amazon. Following their session, Los Mirlos have seen increased international visibility. They are conducting an ‘América Tour’ and are scheduled to return to Lima, Peru, on October 24, 2026.

Continuing the series, Dominican singer and songwriter YEИDRY performed as part of the programming running from September 15 to October 15. Additionally, the norteño group Los Tigres del Norte delivered an acoustic set at the NPR offices in Washington, D.C. The group used the platform to address migrant identity and the history of the U.S.-Mexico border. Opening with ‘Somos más americanos’, vocalist Jorge Hernández emphasized the deep roots of the Latino community. The setlist also included classics such as ‘Golpes en el corazón’, ‘Quiero volar contigo’, ‘Ni parientes somos’, and ‘La puerta negra’.
