Los Mirlos to debut on NPR Music’s Tiny Desk Concerts
The Peruvian Amazonian cumbia group Los Mirlos is set to debut on NPR Music’s Tiny Desk Concerts on Thursday, September 17, at 10:00 a.m. local Peruvian time. Their appearance is part of a special programming series celebrating Latin Music Month.
The performance was recorded on July 28, though the band had to maintain strict secrecy regarding the session due to program regulations. Founder Jorge Rodríguez noted that the opportunity had been developing for approximately eight months, following a decisive meeting where a Tiny Desk producer attended one of the band’s concerts in the United States.
During the session, the group is expected to perform tracks such as ‘La fuga del jaguar’ and their classic ‘La danza de Los Mirlos.’ NPR Music highlighted the band’s 50-year legacy, noting their unique Peruvian version of cumbia characterized by surf-rock style reverberated guitar.
