Los Pleneros de la Cresta release new album Puerto Rico abraza al mundo
Puerto Rican musical group Los Pleneros de la Cresta has released a new album titled ‘Puerto Rico abraza al mundo’. The project aims to bring the traditional plena genre to a global audience by fusing it with various Latin American rhythms.
The album serves as a sonic journey through the 22 cities across four continents visited during the group's recent world tour with Bad Bunny. Using traditional instruments such as the three panderos (requinto, punteador, and seguidor) and the güiro, the group reinterprets iconic Latin American songs.
Notable covers include ‘De música ligera’ from Argentina, ‘Más que nada’ from Brazil, ‘La Múcura’ from Colombia, ‘Gracias a la vida’ from Chile, ‘Alma, corazón y vida’ from Peru, and the Mexican classic ‘Cielito Lindo’. To ensure authenticity, the group collaborated with local musicians, incorporating instruments like the Chilean zampoña, quena, and guitarrón, as well as a Mexican mariachi ensemble.
