Jenss Lara kidnapping case: Prosecutors seek detention for 13 suspects
The judicial process regarding the kidnapping of mining businessman Jenss Lara Tantaquilla and the murder of four companions in Trujillo has revealed significant details. Prosecutors have requested 36 months of preventive detention for 13 suspects, including Jhonsson Smith Cruz Torres, known as ‘Jhonsson Pulpo’.
Evidence presented by the prosecution indicates that the criminal organization ‘Los Pulpos’ used a drone to monitor Lara’s movements and employed tactical police gear to simulate a law enforcement intervention during the attack on August 30. Video footage from the victim's captivity shows him under threat of physical mutilation.
Regarding the ransom, investigators claim the initial demand was as high as US$ 500 million, though it was later reduced to US$ 2 million. Reports suggest the victim was eventually released following a payment of approximately US$ 2 million. The investigation also includes the potential involvement of Joyce Renato Bereche Maco, who is suspected of renting the vehicle used in the crime.
