Los Ríos, Ecuador political groups seek election vehicle amid party suspensions

With sectional elections imminent in Los Ríos province, the Revolution Ciudadana (RC) and its allied AMIGO movement remain uncertain about how to contest after a nine‑month suspension. Leaders and members have not decided under which banner they will run. Two local lists have emerged as possible vehicles for the pro‑Correa faction: Movimiento CRECER (List 100), headed by Vanessa Freire, and Poder Fluminense (List 91), led by Marco Troya.

In the canton of Quevedo, RC is exploring contacts with Unidad Popular and the Ecuadorian Socialist Party, but precandidates have rejected any alliance talks. Mayor‑candidate Leo Jiménez refused to withdraw his candidacy, citing firm political project and “red lines” against formal agreements with RC. Similarly, socialist precandidate Barros insisted he will continue his mayoral bid and is unaware of any negotiations.

Current mayors in Los Ríos who were elected on the RC list 5 are also preparing to seek re‑election, adding further complexity to the province’s electoral landscape.
