Los Tigres del Norte advocate for migrants during NPR Tiny Desk Concert

The legendary Mexican musical group Los Tigres del Norte debuted on NPR Music’s Tiny Desk Concert series as part of the Latin Music Month celebrations. Performing an acoustic set at the NPR offices in Washington, D.C., the band used the intimate platform to deliver a strong message regarding migrant identity and the history of the U.S.-Mexico border.

The group opened their performance with the song ‘Somos más americanos’, a track that addresses the historical shift of territories such as Texas, California, and Arizona from Mexico to the United States. Vocalist Jorge Hernández emphasized the deep roots of the Latino community, challenging narratives regarding immigration and border crossings.

In addition to social commentary, the setlist included several of the band’s classic hits, such as ‘Golpes en el corazón’, ‘Quiero volar contigo’, ‘Ni parientes somos’, and ‘La puerta negra’. The performance was introduced by NPR producer Félix Contreras, who noted the group's role in restoring humanity to the migrant community through their music.
