Lost Zlín Boy Found After Police Search and SMS Alerts

A young schoolboy went missing on a Wednesday afternoon in a shopping centre in the centre of Zlín, Czech Republic. Police received the missing‑person report at 13:24 and immediately deployed about twelve patrols, including order, traffic, foreign‑national, criminal investigators and dog units, to search the centre and surrounding streets. An operation officer also sent an SMS alert to all mobile phones within a three‑kilometre radius, resulting in more than 60,000 messages being distributed.

Four minutes after the alert, several passers‑by spotted the child on Sokolská street and reported him to the police. The boy had walked roughly two kilometres toward another shopping area, mistakenly heading in the opposite direction of his home in Uherskohradiště. Police confirmed his identity and he was safely reunited with his mother.

The rapid coordination between police units, public warnings and civilian assistance was credited with locating the child within minutes, averting a prolonged search.
