Lotus announces hybrid V8 Esprit supercar and Emeya 900 Gold in China
Lotus is expanding its product lineup with both high-performance hybrid and electric models. CEO Feng Qingfeng confirmed the development of the Type 135, an internal project set to revive the Esprit name as a hybrid V8 supercar. Expected to launch in 2028 with European production, the model will feature a mid-mounted V8 engine paired with a high-voltage 800V hybrid system and Formula 1-inspired electric motors.
In the electric segment, Lotus has opened orders in China for the Emeya 900 Gold. This high-performance version of the electric sedan features 905 horsepower and includes several previously optional features as standard, such as carbon fiber body elements, carbon-ceramic brakes, and active aerodynamics. The Emeya 900 Gold can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.78 seconds.
These developments follow significant growth in the Chinese market, which accounted for 58% of Lotus's global deliveries in the first half of 2026.
