Louis XIII releases limited edition cognac with personal refrigeration

Louis XIII has launched a highly limited edition of its Black Pearl collection, titled ‘Black Pearl: Tribute To The Birthplace Of Louis XIII’. Only 398 decanters will be produced.

The new edition is designed to replicate the thermal environment of Le Grollet, the historical cellar where the brand originated. To achieve this, each decanter is accompanied by its own refrigerated chamber that maintains a temperature of at least 13 degrees Celsius.

Master Cellarman Baptiste Loiseau developed the blend by sourcing an exceptional eaux-de-vie from the house archives that specifically reflects the characteristics of the Le Grollet cellar. The tasting ritual encourages consumers to pour the cognac and allow it to warm naturally to room temperature, a process intended to evolve the flavor profile from notes of beeswax, honey, and sandalwood at lower temperatures to spicy aromas, nutmeg, and chocolate as it warms.
